Russia’s war on Ukraine. 10.04.2024

In the operational zone of the Ukrainian Operational-Strategic Group of Forces (OSG) “Khortytsia” on the Kupyansk direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks in the areas of Kyslivka, Ivanivka, and Andriivka. On the Lyman direction, they repelled 3 Russian attacks in the area of Terny, where the enemy tried to breach Ukrainian defenses. On the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 29 Russian attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Verkhnyokamianske, Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar, Novyi, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka, where the enemy tried to dislodge Ukrainian Defense Forces from their positions.

In the “Tavriya” OSG operational zone on the Avdiivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 14 enemy attacks in the areas of Novokalynove, Berdychi, and Umanske. On the Novopavlivka direction, they continued to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane and Urozhaine, where the adversary, supported by aviation, attempted to breach Ukrainian troops’ defenses 28 times. On the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attacked the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces 5 times in the area of Staromayorske and Robotyne.

In the operational zone of the “Odesa” OSG on the Kherson direction, the enemy remains determined to dislodge the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River and launched one unsuccessful attack on their positions.

General conclusion:

  • The enemy tactics observed in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar closely mirror those employed in Avdiivka.  Employing air strikes with glide bombs, the adversary targets the defensive structures of the “Khortytsia” OSG’s, after which they attempt to advance and consolidate their position on the captured line.
  • Enemy aviation on the Bakhmut direction is increasing the intensity of air strikes, possibly indicating the degradation of “Khortytsia”  OSG air defense systems in this sector.
  • Russian forces on the Avdiivka direction are attempting to capture Semenivka, attacking in groups of five to six infantrymen from both the east and north. Typically they employ IFVs to transport small groups of infantry to the front line for assault.

Change in the line of contact (LoC):

  • There were 83 combat engagements on various fronts.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked near Kyslivka and Andriivka.
  • On the Lyman direction, Russian forces achieved minor successes around the chalk quarry south of Bilohorivka. Enemy units are engaged in battles for tactical heights in the quarry area and managed to capture several positions. Heavy combat engagements occurred near Terny, where Russian units are losing positions due to constant counterattacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
  • On the Bakhmut direction, the 98th Airborne Division and the 11th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade are increasing pressure on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Their actions are supported by all available means, including Su-25 attack aircraft. The enemy is launching intense strikes on Ukrainian positions in Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, focusing efforts on capturing Bohdanivka and Chasiv Yar, defended by the 42nd and 67th Separate Mechanized Brigades and the 241st Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. The 5th Separate Assault Brigade is holding heights to the west of Ivanivske, but the enemy managed to advance 150-200 meters towards the Siversky Donets-Donbas Canal.
  • The enemy has advanced up to 1 kilometer deep on the section of up to 1.5 kilometers in the Stupytsko-Holubivske-2 nature reserve. Russian helicopters conducted strikes in the Kurdyumivka and Klishchiivka areas with unguided S-8 and S-13 rockets.
  • Positional battles continued near Verkhnyokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka, Novyi, Stupochky, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka.
  • On the Avdiivka direction, the enemy crossed the railway north of Krasnohorivka and advanced to the southeastern outskirts of Novokalynove, engaging in combat with units of the Ukrainian 71st Separate Jaeger Brigade. The Russian 30th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade holds a foothold on the western bank of the Durna River. The 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade is engaged in combat in Berdychi. The enemy’s 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade controls most of Pervomaiske and seeks to reach the Pervomaiske – Umanske road. The 1st Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 428th Motorized Rifle Regiment, and the 6th Tank Regiment of the 90th Tank Division advanced into the fields northeast of Netaylove and west of Tonenke. The enemy’s110th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade is engaged in combat in Nevelske.
  • The 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Defense Forces holds Semenivka, where units of the enemy’s 30th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade are attempting to advance along Central Street. Defending between Tonenke and Pervomaiske are the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade.
  • Combat engagements persisted near Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Umanske, and Nevelske.
  • On the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy controls Pobieda, up to half of Novomykhailivka, and is attempting to advance towards Heorhiivka. Two platoons of enemy infantry achieved success along Vatutin Street in southeastern Krasnohorivka but were repelled by a counterattack of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Russian forces advanced westward along Central Street in Novomykhailivka. Positional battles persisted near Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, and Pobieda.
  • Defending this direction are the 31st, 33rd, and 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigades, the 79th and 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigades, and the 116th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces.
  • On the Berdyansk direction, local positional battles were ongoing near Urozhaine and Staromayorske. The forces of the 11th Army of the Russian Air Force and the Air Defense Forces continue to strike with unguided glide bombs at the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces near Vuhledar.
  • On the Orikhiv direction, positional battles were ongoing near Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka and northwest of Verbove.

  • The 14th Separate SOF Brigade of the enemy is conducting combat operations near Pryiutne on the Berdyansk direction.

Possible operation situation developments:

  • The forces of the 20th and 25th Army are unable to complete the forming operation on the Lyman direction and will not be able to occupy a favorable starting position for the offensive on Lyman and the Slovyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration before the beginning of summer.
  • The command of the enemy’s “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping, 2nd Army Corps, and 106th Airborne Division will make efforts to eliminate the Siversk salient and set conditions for the encirclement of the Slovyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration from the southeast.
  • The “Center” Operational Grouping command is focused on executing the following operational plan: to establish conditions for the blockade and encirclement of the Kurakhove area or to create advantageous circumstances for launching an offensive operation to encircle “Tavriya” OSG’s defense in Toretsk area from the south.
