Russia’s war on Ukraine. 12.07.2024

In the operational zone of the Ukrainian Operational Group of Forces (OTG) “Kharkiv” on the Kharkiv direction, the enemy continued active operations. There was a total of 6 enemy assaults in the areas of Vovchansk and Hlyboke. The occupiers used aviation for support.

In the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Group of Forces (OSG) operational zone on the Kupyansk direction, the number of combat engagements amounted to 7. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled attacks, particularly in the areas of Synkivka, Vilshana, and Berestove. On the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces thwarted 1 enemy assault in the areas of Makiivka and Nevske. On the Siversk direction Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 8 attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Verkhnyokamianske, Rozdolivka, and Vyimka. On the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 5 enemy attempts to breach the defense in the areas of Klishchiivka, Chasiv Yar, and Ivanivske. On the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 18 attacks in the areas of Toretsk, Pivnichne, Zalizne, and New York.

In the “Tavriya” OSG operational zoneon the Pokrovsk direction,Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 41 enemy attacks near Novooleksandrivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Kalynove, Novoselivka Persha, Sokil, Prohres, Yasnobrodivka, and Karlivka. The enemy concentrated efforts near Novooleksandrivka, where 14 combat engagements took place. On the Kurakhove direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Krasnohorivka, Paraskoviivka, and Kostyantynivka, where the enemy attacked 6 times. On the Vremivka direction, the occupiers conducted 11 assaults on Ukrainian Defense Forces’ positions. The most active enemy actions were near Urozhaine, where they carried out 7 attacks. On the Hulyaipole direction, the situation did not change significantly. One enemy attack towards Hulyaipole was repelled. On the Orikhiv direction, there were 2 combat engagements, particularly near Mala Tokmachka.

In the operational zone of “Odesa” OSG on the Prydniprovskiy direction, the occupiers continue to attempt to dislodge Ukrainian Defense Forces’ units from their positions on the bridgeheads. Two Russian attacks were unsuccessful.

General conclusion:

  • The deployment of the main forces of the 27th Motorized Rifle Division, the main operational reserve of the “Tsentr (Center)” Operational Grouping on the Toretsk direction, indicates the extreme importance of capturing Toretsk.
  • The command of the enemy’s “Tsentr (Center)” Operational Grouping is making efforts to prevent the Ukrainian Defense Forces from consolidating at the barrier line along the Vovcha, Kazenyi Torets, and Bychok rivers.  To achieve this, it periodically shifts attack sectors and directions, carries out numerous tactical regroupings, and implements various measures to accelerate the advance of its forward units.
  • The immediate task of the 433rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 27th Motorized Rifle Division is to reach the Tymofiivka – Prohres line to secure the southern flank of the 30th and 35th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades, which have resumed their offensive towards the Pokrovsk – Kostyantynivka road.
  • Novoselivka Persha remains the last relatively significant “Tavriya” OSG defense hub before the Vovcha River, automatically making it the main focus of the enemy. “Tavriya” OSG has favorable defensive conditions, while the enemy, having reached the eastern bank of the Vovcha River, is in an unfavorable tactical position.
  • The enemy has reactivated its efforts towards Vozdvyzhenka, in the direction of Prohres, and along the Kazenyi Torets River, while simultaneously stubbornly attempting to engage in exhausting urban battles in Pivnichne, Zalizne, and Druzhba on the Toretsk direction, which seems illogical. One can surmise that the commander of the “Tesntr (Center)” Operational Grouping, General Mordvichev, is confident that strategic reserves will be committed to the operation specifically in his operational zone.

Change in the line of contact (LoC):

  • There were 120 combat engagements on various fronts.
  • On the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces made slight advances eastward on the northern outskirts of Hlyboke, continuing to encircle the village for a counterattack to the north.
  • Russian troops crossed the Vovcha River in the central part of Vovchansk, with ongoing battles near Hlyboke and in Vovchansk.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops attacked near Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Pishchane, and Berestove, and conducted airstrikes on Borova.
  • On the Lyman direction, Russian troops attacked near Makiivka and Terny, continuing assaults near Nevske.
  • On the Siversk Direction, Russian troops advanced along the tree line to the northeast of Rozdolivka and attacked near Verkhnyokamianske.
  • On the Kramatorsk direction, the 200th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 14th Army Corps advanced from Kalynivka to the bank of the “Siversky Donets – Donbas” canal to the northwest of the “Kanal” neighborhood. Russian troops advanced in the area of Chasiv Yar and near Ivanivske.
  • On the Toretsk direction, Russian troops advanced in the southern part of Pivdenne, in the center of New York, and to the east of Oleksandropil. Units of the 109th Rifle Regiment of Mobilization Reserve of the 1st Army Corps are attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses in the New York area.
  • On the Pokrovsk direction, the command of the enemy’s “Tsentr (Center)” Operational Grouping again shifted the main attack direction to the Vozdvyzhenka – Prohres sector between the Vovcha and Kazennyi Torets rivers, where water obstacles do not need to be crossed. Forward units of the 30th and 35th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades almost continuously attack “Tavriya” OSG positions in the Lozuvatske area and on both sides of the Novooleksandrivka reservoir, located southeast of Vozdvyzhenka, trying to break into the village from the south and southeast. To expand the penetration area near Novooleksandrivka towards Kalynove and Baranivka, the 433rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 27th Motorized Rifle Division, supported by the 15th and 55th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades, attacks along the Pokrovsk – Prohres railway. The enemy managed to advance in the Lozuvatske area and reach the Kazenyi Torets River. Near Vozdvyzhenka, they secured positions in a grove 500-600 meters from the first buildings of the village.
  • The 55th, 74th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades of the 41st Combined Arms Army, and the 114th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Army Corps reached the bank of the Vovcha River in the Vovche – Novoselivka Persha sector and expanded their control zone north of the latter. The enemy simultaneously attacks from the north, from Yevhenivka, from the northeast, from Novopokrovske, and from the southeast, from Umanske.
  • Ukrainian Defense Forces are engaged in fierce defensive battles in the central and southern sectors of the Pokrovsk direction on two small isolated bridgeheads around Novoselivka Persha and from the railway and slightly south, opposite Prohres and Vovche.
  • On the Kurakhove direction, Russian troops advanced north to the streets of Medychna and Belinskogo on the northeast of Krasnohorivka, continued offensives in the areas of Heorhiivka, Kostyantynivka, Paraskoviivka, and Vodyane.
  • On the Vremivka direction, positional battles continued in the Urozhaine area.
  • On the Orikhiv direction, Russian troops continued attacks near Hulyaipole, Robotyne, and northwest of Verbove, advancing near Mala Tokmachka.
  • In the Black Sea-Azov naval operational area, the enemy naval group on combat duty consists of:
    • Azov Sea: 3 ships, including 0 cruise missile carriers; the total salvo is 0 cruise missiles.
    • Mediterranean Sea: 2 ships, including 2 cruise missile carriers; the total salvo is 24 cruise missiles.

Changes in the enemy disposition:

  • Units of the “African Corps” PMC have arrived on the Kharkiv direction.
  • Units of the 22nd Separate SOF Brigade operate near Robotyne.

Possible operation situation developments:

  • On the Kupyansk direction, in the operational zone of the 1st Tank Army, command of the enemy’s “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping will attempt to reach the Oskil River in the Hlushkivka – Zahryzove sector, the Petropavlivka – Kurylivka line, and storm Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi railway junction. This assumption is supported he enemy’s increased activity specifically on the flanks (Synkivka – Petropavlivka and Pishchane – Kolisnykivka directions). To bind the “Khortytsia” OSG forces, the enemy will exert frontal pressure on their positions in the Stepova Novoselivka area.
  • The enemy has completed the formation of a tactical group consisting of the 252nd Motorized Rifle Regiment, 237th Tank Regiment of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Division, 283rd Motorized Rifle Regiment, and 59th Tank Regiment of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division. This group will soon attempt to seize the crossing over the Chornyi Zherebets River in Makiivka and attack the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces units in Nevske from the areas of Makiivka and Chervonopopivka.
  • The following units will attack through the wooded area of Chasiv Yar with assault groups: the 200th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 14th Army Corps will advance from the Kalynivka area, while the 98th Airborne Division will move between the T0504 Kostyantynivka–Bakhmut highway and the “Novyi” neighborhood, with part of its forces in the “Zhovtnevyi” neighborhood. Their actions will begin with the capture of Kalynivka and securing control over the intersection of the Siversky Donets–Donbas canal and the T0504 highway.
