Russia’s war on Ukraine. 28.07.2024

In the operational zone of the Ukrainian Operational Group of Forces (OTG) “Kharkiv” on the Kharkiv direction, there were 6 combat clashes. Five Russian attacks were repelled in the areas of Hlyboke, Tykhe, and Vovchansk, with fighting continuing near Vovchansk.

In the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Group of Forces (OSG) operational zone on the Kupyansk direction, the enemy made 1 attempt to displace Ukrainian Defense Forces units from their positions near Synkivka. On the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 14 times, trying to advance towards Makiivka, Nevske, Terny, and Novoserhiivka, but was unsuccessful. On the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 6 enemy assaults in the areas of Verkhnyokamianske and Spirne. On the Kramatorsk direction,there were 2 combat clashes. The occupiers showed activity in the areas of Ivanivske and Andriivka, but all attempts to improve their positions were unsuccessful. On the Toretsk direction, the aggressor attempted to break through Ukrainian defense 15 times. In the areas of Pivnichne, Toretsk, New York, and Zalizne, the occupiers were met with stiff resistance 13 times, with fighting ongoing.

In the “Tavriya” OSG operational zoneon the Pokrovsk direction, the aggressor conducted 27 assault and offensive actions. The highest activity of Russian occupiers is in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Vesele, Serhiivka, Yasnobrodivka, and Kalynove. In total, 17 attacks have already been repelled by Ukrainian Defense Forces, and 10 more clashes are ongoing. The situation is difficult but controlled by Ukrainian Defense Forces. On the Kurakhove direction, there were 14 combat clashes. The invaders remain highly active, attempting to advance in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Heorhiivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces units repelled 10 enemy attacks, with fighting continuing. On the Vremivka direction, there were 6 combat clashes. Five enemy assaults were thwarted in the areas of Kostyantynivka and Rozdolne. The situation is controlled by Ukrainian Defense Forces. On the Orikhiv direction, the situation has not changed significantly, with 3 unsuccessful enemy attacks repelled.

In the operational zone of “Odesa” OSG on the Prydniprovskiy direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces fiercely resisted the Russian invaders twice.

General conclusion:

  • On the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces are advancing, attacking in small infantry groups near Mala Tokmachka.
  • There is no observed redeployment of reserves by the Russian military command to the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and there are no signs of forming a strike group.
  • Russian forces conducted an unsuccessful assault on the left bank of Kherson Oblast.

Change in the line of contact (LoC):

  • There were 96 combat engagements on various fronts.
  • On the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced further along Soborna Street in the center of Vovchansk and Stepova Street in the northeastern part of the city, counterattacked near Starytsya.
  • Russian troops continued their offensive in the areas of Hlyboke, Slobozhanske, Vovchansk, and Tykhe. The enemy redeployed several units from the area of Sotnytsky Kozachok to forward positions in other sectors of the Kharkiv direction.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops advanced near Hlushkivka, north of Pishchane, and continued assaults in the areas of Synkivka, near Tabaiivka, Novoselivske, Stelmakhivka, Novoyehorivka, and Makiivka.
  • On the Lyman direction, Russian troops advanced in the wooded area west of Kreminna, attacked near Nevske, Novoserhiivka, Terny, and in the area of Serebriansk Forest.
  • On the Siversk Direction, Russian troops continued offensive actions in the areas of Verkhnyokamianske, Spirne, and Ivano-Dariivka. Units of the 106th Airborne Division are fortifying positions on the outskirts of Pereyizne.
  • On the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops continue to advance west of Kalynivka, attacking in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Hryhorivka, and Andriivka.
  • On the Toretsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces regained lost positions near Toretsk in the northern part of Pivdenne.
  • Russian troops advanced in the center of Zalizne and Pivnichne, continuing offensive actions in the areas of Toretsk, Pivnichne, Zalizne, and New York.
  • On the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops advanced to the eastern outskirts of Vesele, entered the village and captured approximately a third of it, advanced near Vovche, Prohres, and towards Ivanivka, continuing offensive actions in the areas of Kalynove, Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Vesele, Serhiivka, Tymofiivka, Novoselivka Persha, Vovche, Zhelanne, Mezhove, Lysychne, Yasnobrodivka, Karlivka, and Netaylove.
  • On the Kurakhove direction, Russian troops advanced further south of Kostyantynivka, continuing offensive actions in the areas of Heorhiivka, Krasnohorivka, Kostyantynivka, Paraskoviivka, and Vodyane.
  • On the Vremivka direction, positional battles continued south of Velyka Novosilka, in the area of Urozhaine.
  • On the Orikhiv direction, battles continued near Robotyne, Verbove, Mala Tokmachka, and Novoandriivka.
  • On the Prydniprovskiy direction, positional battles continued in the area of Krynky, but there were no changes on the front line.
  • ·       On the Black Sea-Azov naval operational area, the enemy naval group on combat duty consists of:
    • Black Sea: 1 ship, including 1 cruise missile carriers; the total salvo is 4 cruise missile
    • Mediterranean Sea: 1 ships, including 0 cruise missile carrier; the total salvo is 0 cruise missiles.  

Changes in the enemy disposition:

  • The 1st unit of the “Wolves” sabotage and reconnaissance brigade of the “Volunteer Assault Corps” operates near Soledar.
  • Units of the 242nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Army Corps operate near Kostyantynivka, and the 5th and 110th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades of the 1st Army Corps are active near Krasnohorivka.

Possible operation situation developments:

  • The enemy will attempt to advance along both banks of the Lypets River from the village of Lukyantsi towards Lyptsi to regain control over its northeastern outskirts. These actions may be accompanied by an enemy attempt to break through towards the Travyanske Reservoir, thereby cutting off the “Kharkiv” OTG units currently fighting for Hlyboke from the village of Lyptsi.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, in the operational zone of the 1st Tank Army, command of the enemy’s “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping will attempt to reach the Oskil River in the Hlushkivka – Zahryzove sector, the Petropavlivka – Kurylivka line, and storm Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi railway junction. To bind the “Khortytsia” OSG forces, the enemy will exert frontal pressure on their positions in the Stepova Novoselivka area.
  • The enemy’s “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping is avoiding a frontal assault on Chasiv Yar over the Siversky Donets-Donbas canal and attempts to advance through Kalynivka to bypass the city of Chasiv Yar from the north, break through Ridkodubya into the railway station area, and force the forward units of the “Khortytsia” OSG to retreat from the “Novyi” and “Zhovtnevyi” neighborhoods.

Humanitarian+general:

  • According to information provided by the Situation Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Russian forces shelled 11 regions of Ukraine over the past day. A total of 114 towns and villages and 145 infrastructure objects were attacked with various types of weapons. The number of casualties is being updated/clarified.
  • More than 2051 children have been affected in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s full-scale armed aggression. As of the morning of July 28, 2024, according to official information from juvenile prosecutors, 564 children have died and over 1487 have been injured to varying degrees of severity.
  • The Russian army has launched approximately 700 guided aerial bombs and over 100 strike drones at Ukrainian territory this week, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported.
  • On the night of July 28, 2024, the enemy attacked Ukraine with a guided aerial missile Kh-59 and eight Shahed strike UAVs. Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down the Russian Kh-59 missile and six strike UAVs.
  • As a result of morning enemy shelling of the Komyshany village district in Kherson Oblast, 8 people were injured, including 3 children aged 10, 16, and 17 years old.
  • Two districts of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast were under Russian attacks today: Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih. In Nikopol, an unspecified number of people were injured due to artillery shelling. The enemy also struck with kamikaze drones and dropped munitions from UAVs. It hit the communities of Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove, and Pokrovske.
  • On the afternoon of July 28, Russian invaders once again attacked Kherson with a drone, resulting in injuries to a man and a woman.
  • Police, together with volunteers, evacuated ten people from Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi in Kharkiv Oblast, which constantly suffers from Russian shelling.
  • In the occupied territory of Ukraine, cases of involving children in drone training operations have become more frequent. The occupiers are not acting chaotically; they have an entire “strategy for the development of Russian drone aviation for the period up to 2030 and 2035,” according to Pavlo Lysianskyi, the founder of the Eastern Human Rights Group. Currently, educational programs on “unmanned aerial systems” are being implemented, involving “children aged 7 to 17 years.” In total, over 600,000 children are undergoing training under these programs.
  • In the so-called “LPR,” Russian occupiers have illegally appropriated 514 residential properties of those who evacuated from the region, according to Artem Lysohor, head of the Luhansk Oblast State Administration.
