Russia’s war on Ukraine. 05.08.24

In the operational zone of the Ukrainian Operational Group of Forces (OTG) “Kharkiv” on the Kharkiv direction, the enemy continued assault actions. There were 11 engagements in the areas of Hlyboke, Lyptsi, Tykhe, and Vovchansk.

In the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Group of Forces (OSG) operational zone on the Kupyansk direction, the number of engagements increased to 6. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled enemy assaults near 5 villages. The enemy focused their actions towards Petropavlivka, conducting 2 attacks. On the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 8 enemy assaults in the areas of Makiivka, Terny, and Nevske. On the Siversk direction, 8 attacks were repelled near Spirne, Verkhnyokamianske, Pereyizne, and Vyimka, with 5 of these near Vyimka. On the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces stopped 15 enemy attempts to breach the defense lines in the areas of Chasiv Yar, which saw over half of the total engagements, as well as in the area of Ivanivske, Stupochky, Bila Hora, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka. On the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 18 attacks, focusing efforts in the areas of New York and Toretsk, where they conducted almost 80% of their attacks. Additionally, the enemy assaulted near Zalizne and Pivnichne, and heavily bombarded the city of Toretsk and its surroundings, carrying out 14 airstrikes.

In the “Tavriya” OSG operational zoneon the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 30 attacks. The enemy concentrated their main efforts in the areas of Zhelanne and Novooleksandrivka, which saw almost half of the total engagements. On the Kurakhove direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continued to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Kostyantynivka, Paraskoviivka, and Karlivka. Overall, the enemy attempted to breach the defense lines 11 times. On the Vremivka direction, the occupiers conducted 6 assaults, with three of them near Vodyane. On the Orikhiv direction, there were 3 engagements near Mala Tokmachka. The enemy also conducted two attacks in the areas of Robotyne and towards Novodanylivka.

In the operational zone of “Odesa” OSG on the Prydniprovskiy direction, Russian forces suffered defeats during two engagements.

General conclusion:

  • The enemy is delivering the main strike on the Toretsk direction.
  • On the Kharkiv direction, the enemy has reduced the intensity of combat operations, and the front line remains unchanged.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, enemy aviation is increasing the intensity of glide bomb strikes.
  • On the Kramatorsk direction, the 98th Airborne Division has lost its offensive potential, and a personnel shortage has significantly slowed its advance.
  • The enemy’s “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping is conducting operations on several dispersed operational directions – Siversk, Kramatorsk, and Kurakhove.
  • The command of the “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping and the 8th Combined Arms Army are focusing their efforts on two directions: Paraskoviivka-Kostyantynivka (main forces of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division) and Solodke-Vodyane (39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, a tactical group of the 18th Machine Gun – Artillery Division, and the 68th Army Corps). Up to three Motorized Rifle Regiments of Territorial Troops and four Separate Motorized Rifle Battalions have been deployed in this operation. The enemy aims to push Ukrainian Defense Forces units out of the Volodymyrivka area and the area north of Mykilske, threatening them with encirclement from the north.
  • Forward units of the enemy’s 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade have managed to approach the road O0532 south of Kostyantynivka but have not yet cut it off.
  • The enemy’s success in the Krasnohorivka area will allow them not only to encircle the “Tavriya” OSG troops on the Kurakhove direction but also to become active towards Zoryane and Oleksandropil on both banks of the Lozova River.
  • The concentration of the enemy’s “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping and the 8th Combined Arms Army, as well as the main forces of the 1st Army Corps, indicates the formation of an operation for the further encirclement of the “Tavriya” OSG troops on the Vuhledar-Kurakhove direction. The situation for the enemy is facilitated by the fact that the enemy’s “Vostok (East)” Operational Grouping has almost completed the formation of the southern Mykilske-Novodonetske section.

Change in the line of contact (LoC):

  • There were 124 combat engagements on various fronts.
  • On the Kharkiv direction, positional battles continued, but there were no changes to the front line. Fighting persisted near Hlyboke, Lyptsi, Vovchansk, and Tykhe.
  • Ukrainian Defense Forces are deploying additional reserves to northern Kharkiv Oblast and rotating troops near Hlyboke and Vovchansk.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, Russian forces continued local attacks along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line but did not achieve success. Battles occurred near Synkivka, Berestove, Kruhlyakivka, Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, Novoosynove, Hlushkivka, Stelmakhivka, and Andriivka.
  • On the Lyman direction, fighting continued near Makiivka, Nevske, and Terny. Russian forces continued their offensive in central Makiivka.
  • On the Siversk Direction, Russian forces continued their assaults near Verkhnyokamianske, Ivano-Dariivka, Vyimka, Spirne, and Pereyizne.
  • On the Kramatorsk direction, Russian forces continued their offensive near Chasiv Yar but made no progress. Fighting persisted in the “Zhovtnevyi” neighborhood. The enemy advanced near Kalynivka, captured a strongpoint on a dominant height near Klishchiivka, and continued assaults near Vasyukivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka, as well as near Stupochky.
  • On the Toretsk direction, Russian forces advanced southeast of Toretsk but did not change the front line. The enemy moved west of Zalizne and reached the administrative borders of Toretsk, continuing assaults near Pivnichne, Zalizne, New York, and Panteleimonivka.
  • On the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces advanced east of Pokrovsk, within Vesele, capturing most of the village, as well as Novoselivka Persha, and advanced west of Novoselivka Persha towards Mezheve. They reached the northeastern outskirts of Zhelanne and are approaching its northwestern outskirts, continuing assaults near Vozdvyzhenka, Kalynove, Novooleksandrivka, Hrodivka, Vesele, Svyrydonivka, Tymofiivka, Lysychne, Ivanivka, Novohrodivka, Novoselivka Persha, Zhelanne, Serhiivka, Mezheve, Skuchne, Yasnobrodivka, and Karlivka. The enemy breached the defenses of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade of Ukrainian Defense Forces and advanced up to 2 km along the railway west of Prohres but were stopped.
  • On the Kurakhove direction, advance units of the 1st Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade in coordination with the 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade continued attacks on Karlivka after capturing Netaylove, advancing along both banks of the Karlivka Reservoir to its eastern outskirts but were halted. In Nevelske, elements of the 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade captured half the village but lagged behind the main brigade forces fighting near Karlivka. Enemy advance units moved south within Krasnohorivka to the Lozova River, needing to control just two major streets—Krupska and Sedova. Units of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division and 110th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade occupied the eastern part of Heorhiivka. The enemy is attempting to reach the Maksymilianivka-Hostre line.
  • On the Vremivka direction, Russian forces advanced south of Velyka Novosilka and continued attacks in this area, advancing north of Urozhaine and attacking towards Rozdolne.
  • On the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces attacked near Robotyne, Novodanylivka, and Mala Tokmachka.
  • In the Black Sea-Azov naval operational area, the enemy naval group on combat duty consists of:
    • Black Sea: 1 ship, including 1 cruise missile carrier; the total salvo is 4 cruise missiles.
    • Mediterranean Sea: 2 ships, including 1 cruise missile carrier; the total salvo is 16 cruise missiles.

Changes in the enemy disposition:

  • The Russian military command conducted a rotation, replacing units of the “4th Volunteer Assault Brigade” with the 153rd Tank Regiment of the 47th Tank Division of the 1st Tank Army.
  • The 6th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 2nd Army Corps is approaching the eastern outskirts of Verkhnyokamianske.
  • The 74th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 41st Combined Arms Army is active on the Pokrovsk direction.
  • The 394th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division of the 5th Combined Arms Army is operating in the areas of Urozhaine and Staromayorske. The “Kair” unit of the 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 68th Army Corps is active on the South-Donetsk direction.
  • On the Kurakhove direction, the enemy’s 8th Combined Arms Army is operating with its main forces, including the 1st Army Corps (excluding the 114th and 132nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades, which are operating as a part of the “Center” Operational Grouping on the Pokrovsk and Toretsk directions), the 68th Army Corps, the 150th Motorized Rifle Division (excluding the 102nd Motorized Rifle Regiment), and the 20th Motorized Rifle Division.
  • Expect reinforcements for the 150th Motorized Rifle Division from units of either the 5th or 110th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades after the battles for Krasnohorivka, which will allow the division to operate simultaneously towards both Kurakhove and Kostyantynivka.

Possible operation situation developments:

  • The enemy will attempt to advance along both banks of the Lypets River from the village of Lukyantsi towards Lyptsi to regain control over its northeastern outskirts. These actions may be accompanied by an enemy attempt to break through towards the Travyanske Reservoir, thereby cutting off the “Kharkiv” OTG units currently fighting for Hlyboke from the village of Lyptsi.
  • On the Kupyansk direction, in the operational zone of the 1st Tank Army, command of the enemy’s “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping will attempt to reach the Oskil River in the Hlushkivka – Zahryzove sector, the Petropavlivka – Kurylivka line, and storm Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi railway junction. To bind the “Khortytsia” OSG forces, the enemy will exert frontal pressure on their positions in the Stepova Novoselivka area.
  • In the near future, “Tavriya” OSG units will be forced to retreat westward beyond the Vovcha River under simultaneous pressure from the enemy’s 27th Motorized Rifle Division, 90th Tank Division, and 114th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. There is a high probability of an enemy breakthrough between Mezhove and Skuchne in the general direction of Komyshivka.
  • The command of the enemy’s 150th Motorized Rifle Division and 110th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade is preparing to continue the offensive along the Krasnohorivka – Hostre railway in the near future, provided the situation stabilizes in the area of Pobieda village.
